Sheridan College - Bill McMurtry Scholarship
The Sheridan College – Bill McMurtry Scholarship is an opportunity to provide assistance to youth who have come in conflict with the law or are at-risk for such and who show strong promise and potential for completing post-secondary.
Bill McMurtry was passionate about representing the less advantaged. He was a successful trial lawyer for 47 years and a tireless crusader for a wide range of social causes. He was a pioneer in alternative dispute resolution and one of Canada’s first serious practitioners of aboriginal law, representing the Assembly of First Nations during two constitutional conferences in the 1980s. Criteria:
- Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
- Enrolled full-time in a program only delivered at Sheridan. (Students enrolled in joint programs are not eligible for this opportunity).
- Has been in conflict with the law or is at-risk with the law. NOTE: Documentation is necessary to support this criteia).
