Sally and James Finney Caregiver Award

Sally and James Finney Caregiver Award

The Sally and James Finney Caregiver Award recognizes a student at Sheridan College who has demonstrated their commitment to caregiving in the healthcare field with preference given to those with a focus on dementia and/or the elderly.

Sally and James (Jim) Finney are an inspiring couple who have had to experience the struggles a family will go through when someone begins to age beyond having the ability to take care of themselves on their own. Jim took on the role as the primary caregiver for Sally for years prior to her officially being diagnosed with dementia and eventually being placed in a long term-care home until she passed away on November 3rd, 2014. Jim was very dedicated to the well-being of his wife, visiting her numerous times daily and advocating on her behalf to make changes to the health care system that were not working for them.

James and his family once again relied on the compassion and knowledge of the nursing team responsible for his medical well-being leading up to his passing on January 22, 2020. This award was established in 2020 in recognition of the love and commitment Jim and Sally have for each other and how much they are loved by their family.

Jim Finney was also a teacher and Manager of Printing Services at Sheridan College from 1969 until his retirement in 1993.
